We love music in all its forms, but sometimes the most powerful statement is made through absence. This is proven by a collective of over 1,000 musicians, from Kate Bush and Elton John to Hans Zimmer and Tori Amos, as they released an album called “Is This What We Want?”, that contains nothing but silence.

This silent protest isn’t a gimmick, it’s a clear message to AI companies that they cannot simply mine copyrighted works without permission or fair compensation. When composers and songwriters are left out of the value chain, creativity suffers.

We share the belief that AI can be a valuable tool in music production, helping artists explore new sonic territories. But ethical training matters. AI models must either be fed public domain or licensed material, or they must be built on data where rights holders receive fair payment. Anything less undermines the very foundation of artistic creation.

At Copyright Power International we are committed to protecting the rights of creators in this rapidly evolving landscape. We’ll keep pushing for transparent licensing frameworks, fair compensation and clear guidelines so that AI fuels innovation rather than erodes it. After all, even an album of silence deserves a voice.
